The episode: November 14, 1986. Miami Vice drops "Sledgehammer" into Season 3, Episode 8, "Better Living Through Chemistry." And the show didn't stop at one: it used five songs from So, including "Red Rain," "Mercy Street," "We Do What We're Told" and "Don't Give Up." Somebody in that music department owned the album and was not afraid to show it. Pastel blazer, no socks, art-rock soundtrack. Peak 1986.

The remake: Around 2010, Bella Union act Lone Wolf put out a video for "Keep Your Eyes on the Road," made by Broken Pixel, that rebuilds the "Sledgehammer" video with the same stop-motion methods. Chicken scene included. The label says Gabriel and the original animators saw it and approved. Imagine spending months recreating dancing poultry and then waiting to hear what the poultry's creators think.

The documentary: In 2022, Aardman co-founder David Sproxton directed Sledgehammer Revealed, a 56-minute film with the crew and Gabriel talking through how it was made. It ends on the fully restored video. Bristol's Watershed screened it in its 2026 "50 Years of Aardman" season, with Sproxton there in person. Fifty-six minutes about a five-minute video. Your book report on Hatchet was shorter, and you had three weeks.

Now, about those chickens. Quiz time.
